There are many different types of fencing: Bamboo, aluminum, chain, stone, farm, pvc picket, vinyl picket, wood, iron, etc.
Wood fencing: traditional and by far the most popular. Many different panels to choose from and reasonably cheap. But they do require maintenance – painting or staining. And panel fencing provides the best privacy and possibly security.
Iron fencing: iron gives a traditional and elegant look. Think long stakes with fabulously designs. It is sturdy but see-through so you get some security and not much privacy. Wrought iron is expensive and requires up-keep. It needs to be cleaned and painted every year or so to keep it looking nice.
PVC fencing: PVC is a good option. It’s the cheapest of all fence materials and it’s designed to look like wood pickets and posts – they put wood inside the posts to make it more sturdy.
Farm fencing: Horizontal pine between posts. They offer no security or privacy and can be expensive to maintain since it’s easily broken – it will need upkeep and may need replacing every seven years or so.
Stone fencing: Expensive but looks great. Sturdy and eco-friendly. Think of a pre-cast stone wall. Think granite stone in browns, black, and beige, etc. To do this properly requires a good landscaper.
Bamboo fencing: bamboo fencing, eco-friendly and attractive, is a nice option but provides limited protection. Cane and rolled bamboo use wood frames to hold the bamboo poles together for attractive design. Bamboo fencing adds style and privacy to any garden.
